This latest innovation in sensor technology detects the first edge of a web and then ignores any subsequent material voids or porosity. Using a unique 180 foldback prism, the First*Edge sensor transmits light back and forth through sensor optics and the guided material. Remaining light is detected by a photodiode array. The First*Edge sensor works on materials that have been difficult to sense with infrared, and almost impossible to sense with air or ultrasonic sensors.
