Fife expands range of sensors for demanding, high changeover applications

New sensing technologies increase accuracy and efficiency for converters who need to run multiple webs and a variety of materials.

Oklahoma City, OK. – Fife Corporation, the worldwide leader of web guiding systems, releases another first in sensor technology for web guiding with the TruWide sensor; giving converters the ability to run multiple webs and a variety of materials without time-consuming setup changes or sensor repositioning.

The TruWide sensor complements an existing family of sensors for varying web widths, while using new technology to improve accuracy, reduce changeover time and simplify maintenance. Ultrasonic sensing ‘nodes’ are active at all times throughout the entire width of the sensing area, eliminating the need to reposition the sensor between runs and optimizing web alignment in applications with high instances of web width variations.

“Many of our customers must maintain web alignment on multiple, changing web widths at the highest levels of accuracy, and Fife has built a family of products to choose from,” said Ron Suenram, Product Manager for Fife. ‘TruWide utilizes the latest technology to maintain alignment, measure web width, and improve efficiency.”

Fife’s complete family of sensors and positioners to accommodate a variety of materials and variations in web width started over 40 years ago with the first sensor to span the entire width of the web, the SE-4000. In the 1990’s, the Lazer*Wide sensor simplified routine maintenance, and in 2002, the DAC-004 Diode Array Camera added web width measurement. Coupled with a full line of sensor positioners, Fife wide-band sensors are a simple way to increase accuracy in web alignment. The newest addition to the family, TruWide uses the latest technology to improve accuracy, simplify maintenance, provide web width measurement and reduce cost.
